FIELD WORK

UNIVPM AT PORTONOVO  (ADRIATIC SEA): ONE OF THE SITES SELECTED IN ITALY.

Many Cystoseira species have specific ecological requirements and such as restoration actions have the highest probability of success if they are undertaken in areas where Cystoseira ssp. is/was recorded.
The geographical distribution and key drivers and abiotic variables that influence the distribution of Cystoseira species are still unknown.
The objective of WP1 of the AFRIMED project is to identify, standardise and aggregate spatial data relating to the historical and current distribution and trajectories of change of macroalgal forests.
This knowledge is crucial to understand the ecological and evolutionary process, and in managing direct and indirect anthropogenic change.
Everyone is already working to achieve this goal.

The team of University Polytechnic of Marche (UNIVPM)  is collecting data in the Portonovo (Adriatic sea) area, one of the Italian sites selected to the Project, contributing to the produce the map of the distribution and state of the Cystoseira ssp. macroalgal forests in the Mediterranean Sea, an important goal of the WP1.
